Alex Kimmins, great-grandson of our Founder and nephew of our President, visited the School on 25th May to present a cheque for £3,000 to our Principal, Mrs Sylvia Lamb. Alex, who ran the London Marathon earlier this year in aid of Chailey Heritage School, managed to complete the race in just 3hrs and 50 minutes.
On 3rd July the Newhaven Cruisers held a Chailey Charity Day - a family fun day in support of Chailey Heritage School at The Engineer, Railway Road, Newhaven. The fun started at 2pm and included: Hog Roast, Beer Tent, Barbeque and Live Music.
The Longest Day - On Saturday 19th June five fathers of children at Great Walstead School, near Lindfield will spend the longest day of the year attempting to walk along the South Downs from Ditchling Beacon to Chichester Cathedral, a distance of 40 miles, in aid of Chailey Heritage School. They aim to start their walk from Ditchling Beacon at 4.30 am and hope to all arrive at Chichester Cathedral by sunset at 8.43 pm. On 27th March 2010 an Evening of Opera, Oratorio and Song was held at St Margaret the Queen Church in Buxted, East Sussex to raise money for the School. Performers included Lucinda Houghton (Soprano), Sara Gourlay (Mezzo Soprano) and Richard Shaw (Piano).
Norman Baker, Lewes MP, visited the school on 19th March 2010 and met Joe Ward, Jonty Revell and Tom Faro when they presented a cheque for £10,000 cheque to Chailey Heritage School by . The three students, who attend Central Sussex College in Haywards Heath, took part in the Three Peaks Challenge last year. Their mission was to climb Britain’s three highest peaks – Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in Cumbria and Snowdon in North Wales – within 24 hours. Despite atrocious weather they managed to complete the challenge in a time of 22 hours, 47 minutes and four seconds.
Sussex Beacon Half Marathon on 21st February 2010 - Runners from Ibstock Brick Factory in South Chailey who completed the Sussex Beacon Half Marathon in appalling conditions presented the School with a fantastic cheque for over £1,700 on 11th May. They far exceeded their target of £1000. Congratulations and many thanks to all of them.
A Tasting of Sussex Sparkling Wines held in November raised a fantastic £720 for Chailey Heritage School. We are grateful to Mrs Abi Gurney and Mrs Jill Newsome for organising this event and for their tremendous hospitality.
The Chailey Heritage School Summer Party, held on June 27th 2009 at Chailey Place, was a great success. More than 300 guests turned out to help raise funds towards the renovation of the School’s Secondary Department. Hosted by Natasha Kaplinsky, and Heart FM DJ Chris Copsey, the event raised more than £50,000 for the School and we would like to say a very heartfelt thanks to the enormous generosity of all the guests and those who supported the event. |
