The Pre School & Primary Department put on a their Christmas play 'Are We Nearly There Yet' on 9th Decemer 2011 for parents and grandparents. The play was a great success and the audience really enjoyed themselves. One pupil's grandparents wrote 'Having attended the play on Friday 9th we wanted to write and say a big thank you to everyone concerned in the performance and production. It was our first Chailey Nativity Play and the best Christmas present we could have wished to receive.' During the Autumn Term 2011, in Humanities, the PSP4 pupils learned about the Great Fire of London. they made some bread in the 'Pudding Lane Bakery' and enjoyed watching the 'burning of Pudding Lane' (helped by the Premises Team).
One of the highlights of the year for the older primary pupils is going to Hindleap Warren for a week of adventure and exercise (and getting very, very dirty!). Here are some photos of the latest trip in June 2011.
Summer Term 2011 photos: Including photos from HRH Duchess of Gloucester's visit and Martyn Jupp's visit with his candy-floss making machine in June.
Spring Term 2011 photos, which include our visit to Blackberry Farm and our house of sticks with the 3 little pigs and of course the wolf! Leisha's bike - On Friday 18th August 2010, Oli, Adam and Matt left John O'Groats to cycle to Lands End in order to raise money for a bike for Oli's niece Leisha. They managed to raise more than they needed for Leisha's bike and donated the rest to Chailey Heritage School. On 11th March 2011, Oli and Adam came in to talk about their cycle ride and to present the cheque for £500.
Christmas 2010 - The Pre School/ Primary Department have been learning how different countries around the world celebrate Christmas. This culminated in our Christmas Play “Christmas around the World” scripted especially for our children. In this the children explored Christmas traditions in Poland, China, Nigeria and Australia. We were supported by four students from other schools. They played the drums and guitar and sang beautifully. Having live music made all the difference as they were able to play a little longer when required to allow the children to complete what they were doing themselves. The children also loved having the musicians in the department just playing at break and lunchtime. The drums were particularly enjoyed by the children with sensory impairments. Poland – The children previously cooked Polish food and bread. They then laid a table with hay under the table cloth. China - The children decorated the tree with lanterns. Nigeria – The children dressed up as Nigerians and learnt how they cook and then share the food with others. One of our parents cooked us some fantastic dishes so we could all smell it during the performance and then taste it afterwards. Australia -. Previously we had had a barbeque and cooked sausages. We could not do this in the hall so we had a switch operated smoke for the barbeque. This caused lots of excitement for the children. The children had also used surf boards during their swimming sessions. Mick the music teacher played the didgeridoo with its haunting sound. During their music sessions the children had been exploring music from these countries.
"Children obtain maximum benefit from excellent Early Years Foundation Stage provision. Outstanding leadership and management ensure an extremely close working partnership between teachers, teaching assistants, therapists and parents. These vital links result in a consistent and concerted approach to supporting and guiding children’s development." (Ofsted Report September 2009)
