On the adjacent site in purpose-built premises is a specialist clinical team which is part of Sussex Community NHS Trust. A number of permanent and visiting, paediatric medical consultants oversee pupils’ clinical needs. The medical staffing includes specialists in children’s diseases, neurological problems, emotional and mental health disorders and long term disability. Strong links exist with medical specialists in other local NHS Trusts and London teaching hospitals. Each child has a named consultant who undertakes a detailed initial assessment which generates an individual care plan - reviewed annually, or more frequently if necessary. Out-of-hours consultant cover for residential pupils provides advice and support, and ensures that should a child become ill and it is necessary for a transfer to hospital, care can be arranged.

"Exceptional on-site clinical staff and facilities enable pupils with complex medical conditions to continue attending school......Therapists and clinical staff work with pupils day in, day out, and so exercises and routines become very well established. In addition, they and technicians ensure that pupils have access to the physical resources that best meet their needs, such as standing frames and wheelchairs. Exceptionally close working partnerships between these groups and the multi-disciplinary support and guidance are integral ingredients for accelerating learning." (Ofsted Report - September 2009)
