CCS is a personalised set of vocabulary in book form, which may be used visually, aurally or both depending on personal needs. This communication system grows with the developing child, and can be reduced or expanded according to the child’s developmental language level. It is designed to incorporate any access system that a pupil may be able to use, including Rebus symbols, Picture Communication Symbols (PCS), text, pictures or photographs. It is designed so vocabulary can be easily amended and added to as appropriate. The system is based on the structuring of ’20 questions’, requiring a ‘yes’ response. The vocabulary is organised into Categories, which are then sub–divided into Topics and the Key Words. To aid recognition of the Categories, the system is colour coded. All pupils are entitled to their own CCS book as appropriate.
