At Chailey Heritage we recognise that pupils with complex needs will make progress that is not the same as their mainstream peers, but is no less valued. All pupils have their progress recorded against P scales and National Curriculum levels, with evidence to support teachers’ professional judgements kept in each pupil's Assessment Portfolio. This builds up during their time at school to give a detailed profile of learning progress across all attainment targets. Assessments are also recorded on the CASPA database, which gives us instant access to pupils’ progress records and also shows their progress against other pupils with a similar learning disability, nationally. Additionally, all pupils have an Every Child Matters Portfolio with evidence under each of the five ECM outcomes, to demonstrate progress made in non-curricular areas.

" …a combination of outstanding teaching, excellent curriculum, accommodation and resources ensure that all pupils learn and progress at an outstanding pace....Overall, teaching is excellent. Teachers know their pupils’ many and varied needs extremely well....Teachers plan meticulously, using assessment information about pupils’ previous achievements, to develop activities for the next stage in their learning.... Carefully sequenced small steps in learning result in the achievement of longer-term goals....Pupils’ limited mobility is not allowed to diminish the quality and range of learning activities that they experience."
