At Chailey Heritage the curriculum is organised department by department and differentiated as appropriate. Every Department has in place Long Term plans with two or three year rolling programmes for every area of the curriculum which inform the termly Medium Term plans which in turn are the basis of the Short Term, daily plans. Pre School pupils follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. In Key Stages 1 and 2 (Primary) all pupils have access to the National Curriculum, differentiated as appropriate. At Key Stage 3 and 4 (Secondary) the curriculum is based on the National Curriculum although sometimes mapped to the Programmes of Study for earlier Key Stages. QCA Schemes of Work and the Equals Scheme are used throughout to provide content.
Post 16, pupils follow individual learning programmes within which personal and social skills can be developed, within four curriculum areas: PSHE and Citizenship, Life Skills, Key Skills and Sport and Leisure. Pupils working below P4 have a distinct curriculum to address their particular sensory needs. A number of nationally accredited programmes are offered, including the Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDAN), Towards Independence, Youth Award Scheme, Life Skills and Basic Skills programmes and The English Speaking Board programme. "The curriculum is outstanding because it develops literacy, numeracy and ICT skills directly and then gives pupils the opportunity to consolidate them and to develop new ones through a feast of activities..... Learning is enriched through focused whole-school curriculum events, such as French and science days, and by creative approaches to delivering activities, such as multisensory resources, the pond and the secret garden."
