Futures@ChaileyHeritage is a new transition provision for young adults aged 19-25 with profound disabilities and high healthcare needs. It is based in East Sussex on the same site as Chailey Heritage School.

Futures@ChaileyHeritage provides a stimulating and inclusive environment where young adults are empowered to make choices and decisions about all areas of their lives, and where firm foundations are built for the future. This will be achieved through person-centred planning, working in partnership with young adults, their families and the organisation(s) that fund them. Futures@Chailey Heritage will meet individual needs by providing packages including, as appropriate, accommodation, health and therapeutic services, life skills and a wide range of activities on site and in the community.
We are at an exciting stage in the development of Futures@Chailey Heritage. Futures Accommodation provides residential care for disabled young adults who have complex physical, learning and health needs. The new Futures Life Skills Centre offers day provision not only to our residents but also to young disabled adults in the wider community.
Futures Life Skills Centre
Learning through Leisure and Life Skills
We want to ensure that our young adults are empowered to make choices and decisions about all areas of their lives. Our new Life Skills Centre is key to helping us deliver this vision. This exciting new provision offers a range of options to both residents of Futures Accommodation and to young adults with physical disabilities from the wider community.
We have totally refurbished a listed building on our site which is called Grace Kimmins House, after our founder. The state of the art Life Skills Centre, opened in April 2013, offering a range of facilities and activities that are not readily available to adults with physical disabilities. These include an accessible kitchen, a gym with specially adapted equipment, a sauna and spa bath, an ICT suite, an arts and crafts room with a small kiln and a living skills area. GK’s Café in the Life Skills Centre is open to the wider community and creates a lively and vibrant atmosphere for young adults to meet with friends.
Futures Accommodation
Our Futures accommodation currently consists of two residential bungalows, Orchard and Willows, which are designed to meet the special needs of our young adults within a caring, homely atmosphere. Flexible packages of specialist residential care are available ranging from short breaks to weekly, fortnightly, 48 and 52 weeks. The bungalows are run by individual teams of support workers who provide 24 hour care backed by nursing staff from the Sussex Community NHS Trust as appropriate.
On site clinical provision from the NHS via Chailey Heritage Clinical Services. Therapy and specialist clinics will be provided under individual agreement as appropriate.
Our 18 acre site is set in the heart of beautiful countryside with a view of the South Downs and close to the coast. Residents are also given the opportunity to make use of some of our fantastic school facilities including the hydrotherapy pool and the sensory studio and of course the new Life Skills Centre.
Health and Therapeutic Services
Futures@Chailey Heritage shares its location with Chailey Heritage Clinical Services, part of the Sussex Community NHS Trust, which has expertise in the management of all aspects of a complex physical disability. Chailey Heritage Clinical Services and Futures@Chailey Heritage work in close partnership to undertake joint assessments. Each provider will produce their own assessment and fee quotation.
Chailey Heritage Clinical Services provide a range of services including: specialist medical consultants, nurses, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and rehabilitation engineers who can oversee medical and therapeutic needs. Where appropriate all of our young people have access to a very high level of clinical and therapeutic input from our NHS colleagues on site.
