Communicating with Parents

We believe that communication needs to be a two way process between parents and staff if it is to be effective:

  • Parents are invited to review meetings to discuss their child’s wellbeing and progress.
  • Letters are sent home from school to relay important information or news.
  • All pupils have in place a home-school diary which is used by staff and parents to communicate important information.
  • Parents are invited to Parents Evenings during the Spring and Autumn Terms to discuss their child’s progress with teaching staff and therapists. Parents are also welcome to make an appointment to meet with staff at other times during the school year.
  • Parents are invited in to school by the pupil’s department to seasonal events and information/social coffee mornings.
  • Parents receive a brochure with guidance and information on the department of the school their child will be joining.
  • Parents are able to subscribe and input in to the school magazine which is written termly.

Pupils who are residential or having respite at Chailey Heritage will have a member of the residential staff as a key worker. Day and residential pupils will have a teaching assistant from the class they are based in as their link worker. The role of the link worker and key worker is to foster the trust of the pupil and to have a detailed awareness and understanding of the pupil’s every day needs to be enabled to support pupils at meetings and reviews effectively and provide a direct and familiar line of communication/contact for families.

"Leaders and managers establish outstanding partnerships with colleagues from other agencies and other organisations, and they forge good links with parents/carers."  (Ofsted Report - September 2009)
