Volunteers help to support staff at Chailey Heritage School in their work with the young people and allow them more time to use their trained skills. In this way, voluntary help can considerably enrich the lives of the young people, whether at school, or on the residential bungalows. A voluntary helper should be a friendly and understanding person, who likes children and has time to make a regular commitment, however small, perhaps a session/day once a week although occasionally volunteers can be accepted on an irregular basis.
A volunteer's health should generally be good and certainly up to the tasks which might be undertaken. However we will consider applicants who have a disability. As there are such a wide variety of activities available it is usually possible to place volunteers of differing abilities into suitable and appropriate positions.
Volunteers will be subject to an enhanced disclosure via the Criminal Records Bureau and references/health checks will be requested. They will also need to complete a two day induction programme.
